This week at The Sanctuary

This week is Family Sunday! Kids in kindergarten and up will worship with their parents in Big Church. We have Family Sunday the last weekend of every month. This gives families a chance to worship together and gives our volunteers a week away from serving.

Please join us after the service for a potluck lunch! Please bring two dishes to share, if you are able. Everyone should bring a main dish in a crock pot or a cooler. If your last name begins with A-L, please also bring a side dish, chips or salad. If your last name begins with M-Z, please bring a dessert. Please do not bring anything with peanuts or nuts. The church will provide water, plates and napkins. Thank you!

Kids in Krew?
If you have a child in Krew, we want to remind you that we will be doing something a little different on Feb. 5. If you have a 4th grader, please make plans to attend Krew WITH your child that Sunday during the entire service. If you have a 5th grader, your child will not have Krew on Feb. 5. Fifth graders will attend Big Church with their parents.

Baptism in March
We are planning our next baptism on March 11 during Community Night at 6 p.m. at Alpha Baptist Church. Please sign up at the Info Table if you would like to get baptized.

Don’t forget that you can learn the basics of baptism at our ParentStuff class 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. This class is open to anyone who would like to be baptized or any parents who want to learn to teach their children what it means to be baptized. Location of the class is TBD. Sign up for the class at the Info Table or online.

Spa Day Outreach
Come make a single mother’s day by helping put together a “Spa Day” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Groundwork Domestic Violence Program in Joliet. We are looking for volunteers in the areas of hair styling, children’s activities and general pampering! During the time of year many people are thinking about Valentine’s Day, we want to spread the love of Jesus as part of this Justice and Compassion outreach event. Sign up at the Info Table or online.

Women’s Bible Study
Do you want to know God and really believe Him? Do you want to find satisfaction in God, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence? Do you want to make the freedom Christ promised a reality in your daily life? Join other women of The Sanctuary for “Breaking Free,” a Beth Moore Bible study, that will teach women to identify spiritual strongholds in their lives and overcome them through the truth of God’s word. The study begins Feb. 29 and meets from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Sign up at the Info Table or online.

Child Dedication
Would you like to have your child dedicated to the Lord? Sign up for our next Child Dedication, which will be held during the worship service on Feb. 12. Sign up at the Info Table or online.

ParentStuff baptism class

ParentStuff started with a weird concept that I have been studying, reading about, and experiencing in my own home during the past six months. It was about that long ago when someone told me, “Two year olds totally get Bible stories and songs.”

As a dad, to my own shame, I hadn’t really given this much thought. However, hearing that simple sentence sparked in me a plan. For some reason I suddenly felt capable and empowered.

The next day I bought a picture Bible for my two-year-old. That night we started reading. Each night after that I had the opportunity to put him to bed as we worked our way through the colorful pages full of birds, lions, donkeys, kings, oceans, and manna. Soon it turned into a bedtime story and prayer. Then it turned into him praying for all his family by name and closing in, “Amen I love you, Jesus, night night!” Now that is precious!

But it never would have happened if someone else hadn’t come along side me and planted that one sentence in my mind.

And that is exactly what ParentStuff is all about! ParentStuff is the beginning of what I hope will be a significant and lasting partnership between our church and our families. It is the KidsTown staff taking the next step in partnering with parents as you disciple your children.

It is my sincere hope that every parent (regardless of your child’s age) would join us on Feb. 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. as we cover the topic of baptism and what you as parents can do to talk with your kids and prepare them for this important decision!

Please RSVP to bwangler@cometothesanctuary.org so we can provide the correct amount of snacks and resources.

Eve of Eve service on Friday

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2: 10-11

We are so excited about Friday night and the opportunity to join with you in celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I just wanted to remind you about a few things as we approach the end of the year.

EVE OF EVE

If you are still hoping to invite a friend, don’t forget you can use our online invitations. You can find them either through our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/cometothesanctuary or at http://eveofeve.eventbrite.com/. (The Eventbrite invitation automatically includes a link to register, but you do NOT need to sign up. =] )

This is truly one of the best services of the year, and we are looking forward to a great time of worship together starting at 7 p.m. at Bolingbrook High School. Please make plans to stay for refreshments after the service. We will have childcare available for birth to age 3.

END OF YEAR GIVING

The Eve of Christmas Eve service on Friday will be our last service of the year since we won’t be meeting on Sunday, Dec. 25.  We know that many people in our church make an end-of-year gift to The Sanctuary, so we wanted to help you plan for that. We will be taking a regular offering on Friday, and this will be our last offering of the year.

NEW YEAR’S DAY

What better way to ring in the New Year than to worship together? We will meet at our regular place and time on New Year’s Day — 10 a.m. Jan. 1. We will have childcare available for birth to age 3 that Sunday. Kids in preschool and up will worship with their parents in Big Church.

ON THE EDGE

As you start thinking about your Bible reading plan for the new year, we want you to be aware that we will be inviting everyone in our church to go on a spiritual journey together beginning Jan. 8. This will include a 40-day Bible reading plan. We will be explaining more in the coming weeks when Pastor Ronn kicks off the next sermon series, “On the Edge.” Get ready for a challenge that could change your life!

FAMILY SUNDAY
Sunday is Family Sunday. Children in kindergarten and up will worship with their parents in Big Church. We will have childcare for birth to age 3 on those two dates.

CHRISTMAS DAY
We will not have a church service on Dec. 25 because we can’t use Bolingbrook High School on Christmas Day. We hope you have a blessed day celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Please feel free to worship at home or visit another church that morning.

WORLD FOCUS
For our missionaries living on the other side of the world, the Christmas season can be very different than it is here in the United States. And yet, in many ways, our lives have more in common than you might think.
