This week in worship, we focused on the heart issue of obedience. Here are a few thoughts from Jeremiah on how the worship team chose the songs for this week:
With the continuation of the “Torn” series, we looked this week at King Solomon’s defiance and the Lord’s reaction. In I Kings 11:14-40, the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, and King Solomon’s kingdom continued to split and crumble under his rule.
In both this passage from the Old Testament and Christ’s words in the New Testament, we are reminded that obedience is a heart issue. “If you love Me, you will obey my commands.” (John 14)
It’s not about obeying because we are told. It’s about the conviction by the Holy Spirit to obey brought on through a personal relationship with Christ. As we prepare each week to worship, we must ask ourselves: Are we running through the motions because that’s what we’re supposed to do? Or are we truly convicted to get on our knees in reverence and awe and worship the Lord our God?
