|The weeks leading up to Easter are traditionally a time when Christians choose something to “give up” as they remember the death and resurrection of our precious savior. This year at The Sanctuary, we are asking you to take that a step further. What would it look like to really take inventory of our lives? What would it feel like to take a hard look at some of the things that we enjoy – our hobbies, material possessions, habits, even our relationships – and ask ourselves if these things are keeping us from growing closer to God?
What if we were willing to examine our lives and get rid of those things that are holding us back from going deeper in our faith? Would we find things we need to PURGE? We will be answering those questions the next five weeks leading up to Easter as part of a powerful new sermon series, PURGE.
Our spring focus for Justice and Compassion is homelessness. Come and join us in one or two of the following opportunities this Easter season!
Have you ever wondered how you can help the homeless? Join us at 10 a.m. March 23 at MorningStar Mission, 350 E. Washington St. in Joliet, to learn about homelessness in Will County and what you can do about it. There will be an educational tour, and all attendees are encouraged to stay and have lunch with the mission’s clients.
Make this Lenten season more meaningful by serving those who are hungry at MorningStar’s Easter Basket Distribution, 350 E. Washington St. in Joliet, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. March 26. Volunteers are welcome to stay for lunch to discuss the morning and spend time with clients. Sign up at the Info Table or online. Spaces are limited.
Easter and Good Friday
Christ is alive! We are looking forward to celebrating with you the resurrection of our Savior on March 31! Our Easter service is a great time to invite friends and family to join us for a Sunday morning service. Beginning this Sunday, we will provide a guide to help you “take inventory of your life” as we begin to think about the things in our lives that we might need to “give up” to grow in our relationship with Jesus. During this time of transition with our facility, we will not be able to have a Good Friday service this year. We want to encourage you to attend another service with your family or possibly even schedule a Passover Seder with your small group.
Have you ever considered going on an overseas mission trip, but you weren’t sure what opportunities were available? Join The Sanctuary’s Missions Team on March 17 to learn about missions trips coming up this summer. Team members will be giving details about trips organized by other groups in the area that you can join, as well as plans for a Sanctuary trip in the future. The meeting will be at BHS in the band room right after worship service.
Help With Our Building
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us so far with construction projects at our new facility at 1251 Windham Parkway! We will be working each week from 8 to noon Saturdays and from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays. We are focusing on taking down the ceiling tiles and gridwork so we can increase the height of the ceiling. We will begin painting in the next few weeks. Sign up at the Info Table or online to get the most up-to-date details about project dates and times.
If you are a volunteer in any ministry area at The Sanctuary, please plan to attend Leadership Community at 7 p.m. March 18 at 1251 Windham Parkway. This will be an awesome time to come together to learn more about our vision, build leadership skills and have time to huddle with our ministry teams.
Dr. Gary Chapman, author of “The Five Love Languages” will be leading a marriage seminar called “The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted” from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 16 at Living Water Community Church in Bolingbrook. Registration is $85 per couple or $45 per individual. Call 630 759-5799 for more info or go to www.moodyconferences.com to sign up.
Check out our web site each week to help you prepare for small group. We upload the small group questions by 5 p.m. on Fridays. To download those, go to www.cometothesanctuary.org, click on the Media tab and then Small Group Questions. You can find links to messages by going to Media and Sermons. Or go to: www.vimeo.com/cometothesanctuary.
