Coming in the new year

Happy New Year!

We hope you are enjoying the last few days of 2010 !

Please join us at 10 a.m. on Sunday as we kick off the new year with a message from Pastor Ronn about our church’s vision, Building Homes of Faith. Then, on Jan. 9, we will begin a new series, Foundations (Part 2). This time, we will look at Salvation, Sanctification, the Rapture, the Church and Eternity.

Here are a few reminders about other things that are coming up:
FAMILY SUNDAY LUNCHES

Our next Family Sunday is Jan. 30, and this one will be extra special. After the service, everyone is invited to a potluck lunch in the lounge area upstairs. More details will be coming soon about what you can bring to the lunch. But mark your calendar for this fun event! We will have several potluck lunches next year that will coincide with Family Sundays.
MEN’S MINISTRY

The men are talking about food, fun and fellowship and that can only mean one thing: Football! Join them at 3 p.m. Jan. 23 to watch an NFL Conference Championship game. They will be gathering at a home in south Naperville. Please sign up at the Welcome Table if you plan to attend. Please bring an appetizer or snack, if you are able.

WOMEN’S LINK

When the car won’t start we call a mechanic. When the bathroom overflows we call a plumber. Yet, when we are in the midst of a spiritual struggle we often fail to call upon God’s provision, comfort and strength. In this insightful study of God’s names, “Lord, I Want to Know You,” the women of The Sanctuary will learn to call on specific names of the Lord who can provide for every need.

The nine-week study will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday mornings, beginning Jan. 25, at a home in south Naperville. The cost is $12 for the workbook. Childcare will be available. Please sign up at the Welcome Table.

BAPTISM

If you would like to get baptized, mark your calendar for our next Community Night on Feb. 27 at Alpha Baptist Church. More information will be coming soon.

Looking ahead…

Anticipation is in the air as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We hope you are able to take time to enjoy the season and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

We have so many exciting things coming up this month, as well as in the new year. If you would like to start planning ahead, here are all of the details:

OFFERING REMINDER

We wanted to remind you that Sunday is our last regular service of the year (other than Eve of Christmas Eve). That means this will also be the last time we will collect a regular offering in 2010. If you were planning to make an end-of-year gift in this calendar year, Sunday will be your last opportunity to do so. After that, you can still mail your offering to the church office.

EVE OF CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

Please join us at 7 p.m. Dec. 23 for our Eve of Christmas Eve service in the auditorium at Bolingbrook High School! Since our service might not interfere with other plans on Christmas Eve, this is a great opportunity to invite your friends to attend this celebration of Christ’s birth — one day early! We will have invitations available on Sunday at the Welcome Table. After the service, enjoy a time of food and fellowship. We will have cookies and other treats in the lounge area upstairs.

NO SERVICE DEC. 26

Don’t come to church? That’s right! Don’t come to Bolingbrook High School on Dec. 26! We are canceling our Sunday morning service the day after Christmas. This gives our volunteers and staff a chance to relax and spend time with family. We hope you will enjoy this time with your family, as well.

CAROLING EVENT

Join us at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 or Dec. 21 at the Bolingbrook Christian Health Center (151 E. Briarcliff Road, inside New Song Church) as we bring songs of joy and hope to some of the families that are ministered to at the clinic. Come to this fun, family-friendly event of sharing in the joy of Christ’s birth. Hot chocolate, goodies and music will be provided. We also will have the GREAT OPPORTUNITY to tour the health center and hear what God has been doing. Please sign-up at the Welcome Table so we know how many goodies we need for each evening!

SMALL GROUPS

If you are interested in joining a small group beginning in January, please sign up at the Welcome Table on Sunday. We are handling small group sign-ups a little differently this time. Instead of signing up for a specific group, we are trying to get an idea of how many new groups we might need. We will contact you to determine the group that would work best for you. If you are already in a group that works for you, you don’t have to do anything! You will still be in that group in January. The next small group session begins the week of Jan. 9.

FAMILY SUNDAYS

Dec. 19 and Jan. 2 are the next Family Sundays. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade will join their families in the auditorium for the Sunday morning service. We will not have KidsTown on those days. Children in The Far Off Wing, which includes Baby Boulevard, Toddler Trail and Preschool Place will have class as usual. However, 4- and 5-year olds will sit with their parents during worship and then go back to class before the sermon begins.

FAMILY SUNDAY LUNCHES

We will have another Family Sunday on Jan. 30, but this one will be extra special. After the service, everyone is invited to a potluck lunch in the lounge area upstairs. We will have more details in January about what you should bring. But mark your calendar for this fun event! We will have several potluck lunches next year that will coincide with Family Sunday.

MEN’S MINISTRY

The new year also will bring a new men’s ministry. The men of The Sanctuary are invited to gather for food, fellowship and fun on Jan. 23. They will be getting together to watch an NFL Conference Championship game at the home of Jeff Holtz. More info will be coming soon. If you have questions, please contact Tom Matt at tmatt101@gmail.com.

WOMEN’S LINK

And the women have plans in January, as well. A women’s Bible study will begin on Jan. 26. The 9-week study will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings on the book, “Lord, I Want to Know You,” by Kay Arthur. Childcare will be available. Look for a sign-up sheet coming in January.

BAPTISM

If you would like to get baptized, mark your calendar for our next Community Night on February 27 at Alpha Baptist Church. More information will be available in the new year about this service.

Good Works and more…

Twenty-eight people from The Sanctuary went on a missions trip to Athens, Ohio, this summer. They helped people in the impoverished area with home improvement projects, construction work, lawn-care and by preparing a meal for a homeless shelter.

FAMILY FUN FEST

We are getting so excited about the Family Fun Fest happening on Sunday. The Justice and Compassion team, as well as volunteers at the Bolingbrook Christian Health Center, have done an amazing job putting it together.

We wanted to thank YOU for the generous outpouring of support for both the fun fest and the back-to-school supply drive. We were able to raise almost $2,000 through our benevolence offering to buy supplies for each and every child — more than 180 children. This is AMAZING! And if you could see the bags, they are packed with supplies. It’s a wonderful thing.

Please be in prayer the next few days about how the Holy Spirit might work through you to spread the love of Jesus to someone at Family Fun Fest. Whether you are helping with set-up, serving cotton candy, baking cookies or distributing backpacks, also be asking Him to break down any barriers that might keep you from reaching out to create genuine relationships. How can you step outside your comfort zone and strike up a conversation with someone new?

We would love to share your stories from Family Fun Fest on our blog next week. Was it harder or easier than you thought to leave safety for adventure? How did God meet you when you were lost in translation? What did you learn when you took the leap? Please be in prayer that we would spread the love of Jesus to everyone we encounter on Sunday.

WOMEN’S LINK

Ladies, please mark your calendars for Friday, Aug. 27! We will be having a Women’s Link coffee house at Fat Bean Bistro and Coffee Bar, 4001 S. Naperville/Plainfield Road. We will have live music and a fun evening to hang out and socialize. The coffee shop will only be open to us for the evening! Cost is $6, which includes coffee with flavorings and your choice of dessert. Sign up here or at church on Sunday so we can give the coffee shop a headcount. Bring a friend!

SMALL GROUPS

Small groups will start again the week of Sept. 26. You will have a chance to sign up for small groups both at church and online beginning Aug. 29. Get more info.

SANCTUARY SOFTBALL

The Sanctuary softball team will be playing in the church league tournament Aug. 21. We would love to have as many people as possible come out and support our team, which is ranked fourth in the league! The league will provide a continental breakfast and grill out for lunch for players and fans. We will have more info about the time our team will play in the next week.

ANNUAL MEETING

Please mark your calendar for Sept. 19 for our annual meeting. This will be the time to vote on the budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, new members and a minor change to our by-laws. The annual meeting is 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Alpha Baptist Church.

Please also save the date for the budget meeting Sept. 12. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the new budget and answer any questions. Members are encouraged to attend, but the meeting is open to anyone who attends The Sanctuary. The budget meeting is at 3:30 p.m. at the church office.

FAMILY SUNDAY SCHEDULE

The next four weeks will be family Sundays to give the KidsTown crew a chance to get ready for the kick-off of the new ministry year, beginning Sept. 12. Kids in nursery through pre-school will still meet in their usual classrooms.

TORN

Pastor Ronn will be continuing the series, “Torn” this week with another message from I Kings: Distracted or Alert. If you missed the first four sermons, you can download them from our web site or watch on YouTube.

Women’s Link coffee house

Ladies, before you begin the rush of the back-to-school schedule, packing lunches and fall sports, enjoy a relaxed evening with friends. Women’s Link will be hosting a coffee house Friday, Aug. 27, at Fat Bean Bistro and Coffee Bar, 4001 S. Plainfield/Naperville Road.

Get to know other women from The Sanctuary and enjoy live music, coffee and dessert from 7 to 9 p.m. This event will be a hang-out time without a set agenda.

Bring your friends and join us! Cost is $6, which includes coffee, flavorings and a selection of desserts.

Please sign-up below, at church or by contacting Emily Neal so we can give the coffee shop a headcount. Hope to see you there!

Let’s go for a dip…

About 35 women from The Sanctuary got together on Saturday night for the Women’s Link “Beach Party”.

The theme of the night was “Let’s Go for a Dip.”

Summer brings thoughts of dipping one’s toes in the ocean or walking in the sand.

The women took a dip with their forks into fondue.

They took home a refreshing party favor made from water bottles and Crystal Light drink packets.

But what about “diving in” for an adventure with God? They heard a message from Beth Moore (via DVD) about the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives.

It was a great evening of fun, fellowship and a time to be challenged by God’s Word.
