Gearing up for fall

Fall is almost here and that means we are gearing up for an exciting new ministry year at The Sanctuary. KidsTown will be back in full swing in one more week, small groups will be resuming soon and events are being planned in other ministry areas. Make sure you read on for all of the details!

KLUBHOUSE AND KREW RETURN IN SEPTEMBER

This Sunday is the last week that kids in Klubhouse and Krew will attend Big Church for the summer. Let your kids know that the fun of KidsTown will return on Sept. 11! We will be posting more details about this in the next week.

SMALL GROUP SIGN UPS

If you want to join a small group for the fall, sign-ups begin Sunday! If you are joining a group for the first time or if you are switching groups, stop by the Information Table after the service or go online to sign up for a new group. If you are planning to continue meeting with your current group, you don’t need to do anything. The next small group session will begin the week of Sept. 25. You can download a list of all of the groups from our web site.

FIND YOUR FIT

As we get ready for our new ministry year, we want to help YOU Find Your Fit! This is a great time to learn about all of the ministry areas at The Sanctuary and find out how you can use your gifts and talents to serve the Lord. Whether you love to work behind the scenes, in the kitchen, on stage or by having fun with kids, we have a spot for you to serve at The Sanctuary. Stop by the Information Table before or after service any of the next two weeks to learn more about our ministry areas and where you might Find Your Fit.

PRAY BOLDLY

Back in June, Pastor Ronn challenged our church body to pray boldly as we approach our Annual Meeting on Sept. 11. As a follow-up, Pastor Ben asked us to share our “Whale of a Tale” of what God is doing in our lives. We want to share those stories of how God has answered prayers in our church at the meeting. Pastor Ronn also asked us to pray boldly that God would open a door for us to find land or a building space. If you missed Pastor Ronn’s challenge, you can check our his message on our YouTube channel, listen on our web site or read about it on our blog. If you have a story to share, please write it down and give it to a staff member or e-mail it to us.

ANNUAL MEETING

Our Annual Meeting is at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at Alpha Baptist Church, 240 S. Schmidt Road. The purpose of the meeting is to seek congregational approval of the new budget for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. We also will approve new members, elders, a person on the nominating committee and our treasurer.  Anyone who attends our church is welcome to attend the annual meeting, but only members can vote.

Pastor Ronn kicked off a new sermon series this week, called “Behind the Scenes.” Presented in 3D, the six-week series is full of drama, action and adventure. You won’t want to miss a single Sunday as we find out what God was doing “Behind the Scenes” in the true-life story of Joseph.

I have a few reminders for you this week. Please take a minute to get all the details!

PRAYER FOR MISSIONS TRIPS

Please be in prayer for the 22 people who left on July 31 for the Good Works mission trip to Ohio. They are repairing homes, painting walls, cooking meals, leading a kids’ program and doing lawn maintenance this week in an impoverished area near the Appalachian Mountains.

Four people from The Sanctuary also will be leaving on Thursday for a mission trip to Haiti. They will be posting daily updates on a blog at: http://haititrip2.blogspot.com/

Family Fun Fest returns in August

Whether you’re there for the games, the tacos or a shot at a pastor in the dunk tank, you won’t want to miss this year’s Family Fun Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 14. Join us for this annual partnership event with the Bolingbrook Christian Health Center, where we get to have food and fun with many of the people in our community that are served by this wonderful ministry.

Because The Sanctuary is “hosting” this event, we’d like to see as many people as possible get involved in some way to make it a meaningful day for both our church community and the community at large. See if you can be part of one (or all!) of the four P’s!

Party: This is someone who makes the party happen by volunteering at the event itself from games to sno-cones to dunk tank to the list goes on! Check the volunteer sign-up at the Welcome Table and pick where you want to make the party happen!

Partner: We also are providing new back-to-school backpacks and gift cards for school supplies for select families served by the clinic. We are looking to collect Walmart gift cards to include in each of the 100 backpacks. (The backpacks have already been donated.) If you are interested in participating in this way, just drop your gift card in the offering basket and it will make its way to the Justice and Compassion team for the backpack drive.

Pray: For the first time, we will be offering prayer at the Family Fun Fest! Many people who visit the Bolingbrook Christian Health Center have burdens and illnesses that are crippling to their families. We are looking for a few people who would be willing to pray with individuals and lift up their needs to the One who can meet them. This sign-up will also be at the Welcome Table.

Play: Just come and enjoy the event! Meet some people you’ve never met, play some games you might have never played, and put a face on this wonderful ministry right here in our community.

Looking forward to once again extending the love and grace of God to the community and around us!

Church picnic on Sunday

00building_05

Don’t forget! We are NOT having church this week. If you come to Bolingbrook High School, you will be walking into the high school graduation.

Instead, come on over to the James S. Boan Woods for an all-church picnic. The fun starts around 11 a.m. with grilling, a bouncy for the kids and bean-bag toss.

The church will provide meat, but please bring a side dish or dessert to share, as well as drinks for your family. Please also bring lawn chairs, if you have them. The picnic area is next to Hidden Oak Nature Center, 419 Trout Farm Road. Parking is available either at the park or at the nature center. Invite your friends!

We have a few new things coming up, so be sure to keep reading:

KIDSTOWN REGISTRATION

If your children will be in our KidsTown program in the fall, please fill out a registration form online or at church on Sunday. We need a separate form for each child so we have the most up-to-date info about allergies or other special needs. Please register your children by May 29.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

Please make plans to attend our Congregational Meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday night at Alpha Baptist Church. This meeting is going to be jam-packed full of important information, celebration and a congregational vote. JUSTICE AND COMPASSION

00building_03We have two opportunities coming up to find your passion for compassion. At 9:30 a.m., May 28, we will have a chance to care for the elderly when we visit Sunrise Senior Living Center in Naperville. Whether it’s visiting with residents, helping plant a garden or playing beach ball volleyball, come sign-up at the welcome table for this month’s invitation to compassion.

00building_04In June, the compassion event is focused on welcoming the stranger. Do you have a heart for other cultures or are you good at welcoming newcomers? Come interact with newly-arrived refugee families and volunteers at the World Relief Refugee picnic from 4 to 7 p.m. June 5 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 701 N. Randall Road, Aurora. Sign-up at the Welcome Table for this family-friendly event.

CHURCH PICNIC

00building_05On June 5, we won’t be able to use Bolingbrook High School because of graduation. Instead, we have decided to have an all-church picnic! Please make plans to join us for burgers on the grill and lots of fun from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that Sunday. The church will provide meat, but please bring a side dish or dessert to share, as well as drinks for your family. We also need several volunteers to help grill. Contact Julie Holtz if you are interested. We will meet at the picnic area at James S. Boan Woods, which is next to Hidden Oak Nature Center, 419 Trout Farm Road. Invite your friends!
