Hello Parents!

We had a great morning with your kids in Krew today!  The virtue we’re studying this month is Knowledge — discovering something new so you can be better at whatever you do — and our memory verse for the month is Luke 2:52.  First, we had some fun looking at pictures of the Krew leaders and some of the Krew parents when they were around the age of twelve.  :-)  Then we read the story from Luke 2 and watched a video about it.  Jesus was twelve and stayed in Jerusalem after the Passover feast.  His parents, who had left to go home, thought he was lost.  Finally after three days, they found him in the temple listening to the teachers and asking questions.  Next we talked a little about the memory verse — what it means to “grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”  We ended our morning by watching a video about 9/11.
We want you to know that we’re using a new curriculum in Krew this fall.  The program is called Orange, and the 4th and 5th graders are utilizing the 252 Basics curriculum.  Here’s an excerpt from the Orange website explaining the heart behind the curriculum:

The story of God reveals the character of God. That’s why 252 Basics uses Bible stories to teach core virtues. And to make it easy to understand, each principle is supported by a weekly Bottom Line—a short phrase so easy to remember that it can be reinforced at home throughout the week.  In fact, when a kid transitions into middle school, we want that child to have experienced and own three basic truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52 (light bulb moment—now you know what the 252 means):

  • I need to make the wise choice.
  • I can trust God no matter what.
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

These truths are reinforced each week.  We also focus on a core virtue each month. Why virtues? Because they display God’s character. And when we live them out, not only do we understand His heart more, so do the people around us.

On the whole, 252 Basics utilizes Bible stories, a core virtue, and a memory verse each month while offering engaging presentations of the 3 Basic Truths. We also throw in some unforgettable illustrations of how God works in our lives to make us more like Him.
One of the things we love about this curriculum is that it has some great resources for you guys, the parents of the Krew kids.  We’ll be sharing some of those with you in the future in hopes that they will help you build your home of faith.  This week, we’d love it if you would encourage your kids to memorize Luke 2:52 and work through their God Time pages, a devotional that they can do on their own.

Next week, Krew will be in the auditorium for the first part of the service.  After worship, we’ll be dismissed to go to our class.  We want to encourage you to worship together as a family during the service.   Then we’ll meet your kids in the foyer and walk with them up to the lounge.  If you will not be in the service, your Krew kids can sit with the U’s or the Cains.  We’d love to have them join our families for the morning!

One last thing — don’t forget about the Movie Night on September 23.  After all the votes were counted this morning, it looks like we’ll be watching the movie Rio and having fun hanging out together.

Thank you for hanging in there and reading all of this!  And for entrusting your kids to us on Sunday mornings!
